The Arizona Senate has approved Senate Bill 1098 – legislation that would legalize and create an industrial hemp industry in Arizona.

The hemp bill now moves to the Arizona House of Representatives.

Vote For Hemp Sanity

“Hemp is so low in THC that it is impossible to get high from, so remember, this is rope, not dope.”Sen. Sonny Borrelli, R-Lake Havasu City

Hemp is the fiber form of cannabis and is used in everything from body lotion, building materials and food to paper, clothing and other textiles.

This year’s bill appropriates $500,000 to the Arizona Department of Agriculture and another $250,000 to fund staffing for oversight and regulation of hemp farming, licensing and cultivation.

“It uses nine times less water than cotton,” said State Sen. Sonny Borrelli, R-Lake Havasu City, bill sponsor.

“This will help our cotton growers to be able to rotate in another crop. They only get one planting a year of cotton, this can be planted once a year and at least four cuttings,” Borrelli said. “By establishing an industrial hemp program in Arizona, we are creating new jobs and expanding economic opportunities,”

“Arizona is one of the top agricultural producers in the country, and it makes sense to grow a product that will thrive in our desert climate. “Sen. Sonny Borrelli, R-Lake Havasu City
